Cerebral Function Monitor
Burst Supression Pattern

This tracing was recorded from a full term infant at the age of 90 to 94 hours. The infant was born following a ceasarian section due to fetal distress. He underwent full ressuscitation after birth. His Apgar score was 1, 5 and 8 at 1, 5 and 10 minutes of age. Cord pH was 6.84. The infant suffered from severe birth asphyxia with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy grade III. He survived and suffers from severe hndicap.
The tracing demonstrate typical burst suppression pattern. The main band voltage has low voltage with short electrical burst superimposed. These bursts can differ in their amplitude and frequency. In this example the bursts are less frequent. In the full term neonate, this pattern correlates to the burst suppression pattern of the conventional EEG and usually denotes severe brain insult.
