This tracing was recorded from a full term infant at the age of 18 to 22 hours. The infant was born following a ceasarian section due to fetal distress. He underwent full ressuscitation after birth. His Apgar score was 1, 5 and 8 at 1, 5 and 10 minutes of age. Cord pH was 6.84. The infant suffered from severe birth asphyxia with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy grade III. He survived and suffers from severe handicap.
The voltage of the tracing is low, and the basic pattern is of burst suppression with slow frequency bursts. Superimposed on the basic pattern is on of seizure activity with both the lower and upper part of the tracing rising up and falling down (the saw teeth appearance).
