This is a normal tracing for a full term newborn. The voltage is normal and the pattern is one of sleep wake cycling with a band that is widening and narrowing alternatively. The tracing was recorded between 9 and 13 hours of age. It comes from an infant that was delivered by ceasarian section due to fetal distress. The child underwent a full resuscitation after birth and recovered only at the age of 15 minutes. His Apgar score was 1 and 5 at 1 and 5 minutes of age. His umbilical cord pH was 7.16. Since both his clinical status and his CFM recording were normal, it was concluded that he did not suffer from hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
